Description

The Elk Hunter is probably the most robust hunting knife that I’ve made yet. Designed from a wooden Polynesian knife that was likely some sort of kitchen utensil, I made the blade of 5160 high carbon steel and used beautiful Cocobolo wood scales for the handle. The up-swept nose of the blade is perfect for skinning larger game, while the long, flat of the edge can be used to chop wood if needed. The spine of the blade has jimping to provide a good thumb grip.

The ergonomics of the Elk Hunter’s handle provide an amazingly comfortable grip, while the flared ‘bulbous’ end allows you do heavier chopping with ease. With a balance point right at the start of the handle scales, you have excellent control of the knife when your grip is choked up on the blade for more detailed precision work. This beautiful choice cut of Cocobolo wood has a large sap deposit providing the stunning white/yellow contrast to the reds and oranges.

The sheath is brown leather with a versatile ‘ring loop’ design. This allows the knife and sheath to swing and move around more freely so as not to get in the way, while still providing excellent blade retention and ease of draw. Pictures coming soon!! As always, my sheaths are hand stitched and sealed for water resistance.
