Sheriff's Academy Commemorative Bowie
Congratulations to David Sa and all of Class 172 of the Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy Academy. Your hard work and dedication has finally paid off! We’re all proud of you D…and by ‘we’, you should know who all I mean ;~) Congrats buddy!
This knife is a beautiful piece of work! Though it will likely never see use, it is more than capable. I went with a more traditional style bowie on this one. The blade has a scary sharp cutting edge and a nicely sharpened top clip, making it a formidable fighting knife if the need was there! I added some shape and rope file work to the brass guard and filed a ‘collar’ in the ferrell, giving a little more class to the design. The brass butt cap was cut and hand filed into the shape of the Sheriff’s star, then pinned into place. I finished the blade out with a 220 grit satin finish and, obviously, marked the inscriptions. The handle itself is a beautiful piece of Desert Ironwood, sanded and buffed to a semi-gloss finish.
The knife has a balance point just barely above the guard, giving it a great feel in the hand and offering excellent control. The taper and flare of the handle provides added comfort to the grip. You will notice that I have been playing around with actually tooling my sheaths now. I’m not the best yet, but I can do a fair amount of nice tooling to class up a sheath. This sheath sports the initials of the owner worked in with the basket weave. As always, my sheaths are hand stitched and sealed for water resistance.
While this was a special edition knife, I can produce another similar to it if it interests you!
