African Tribal Spear End

X-008:

African Tribal Spear End

This piece was a request to match an authentic African Tribal spear. The client had the top portion of the spear but was missing the bottom half and the wooden connector spike. The bottom of this is essentially a three foot nail with a socket hammered and folded into the top. It is made of wrought iron and treated to match the aged and heavily used look of the original top piece. The center connector spike is carved and sanded oak, stained to a dark walnut. It was left unfinished and worked to give it a more primitive and used look.

The original top half of the spear measures 30 inches. I hand forged the bottom half and drew it out to a 36 inch spike. The wood connector piece measures 18 inches, though 3 inches per side fit up into the sockets on the wrought iron ends. The complete spear has a length of six and half feet when assembled. This was definitely a unique piece and may prompt future endeavors using wrought iron.
